California law requires that all students have up-to-date immunizations before starting school. Please upload your child’s immunization record when prompted in the Aeries portal during registration, and again before the start of school if the record has changed. Students will not be able to attend school until all required vaccines are verified as complete. Please visit the California Department of Public Health Shots for School Website for a list of required vaccinations by grade level.

School placement at schools is based on:
- Siblings of currently enrolled students residing in the District are considered residents of the sibling's school and will be enrolled in that school if they wish and if there is space. The currently enrolled sibling must be in attendance at the school when the new enrollee enters the school.
- Facility capacity and class size.
- Proximity of residence to the school of choice.
- Identified special education and program needs.
- Balance of class size across the District.
For placement purposes, parents are asked to rank their preferences (1st to 5th) for each of our five elementary schools. Requests that do not indicate a ranked preference for each elementary school may be discarded.

No, only current and verified Mill Valley residents may register. Details of the verification of residency criteria can be found here.
-
We do not offer school tours. While each school campus is unique, all schools provide exemplary and equitable education. We have wonderful PTA enrichment programs, and the support of Kiddo! our school foundation.
-
Intradistrict Transfers:
- For currently enrolled families who wish to request a transfer within Mill Valley Schools for the 2026-2027 school year, intradistrict transfer requests will be accepted during the registration period.

In the Mill Valley School District, registration is not done by neighborhood school boundaries. It’s not uncommon to have students attending schools that are not in the vicinity of their homes. Why is this? In Mill Valley, we have wonderful historical schools that have been community hallmarks for years. Unfortunately, the district’s two smallest schools serve the largest city population areas. Therefore, the enrollment of students is not done by neighborhood boundaries, but district-wide.
-
No. While the proximity of residence to the school of choice is a factor for placement, it is not a guarantee. Some students may not be placed at the school closest to their home.
