Ethics Training
Ethics Training Requirements for California Local Officials
California law requires certain local agencies to provide ethics training for elected officials, designated employees, and, beginning January 1, 2026, department heads and similar administrators. New officials must complete the required training within six months of assuming office or employment.
Agencies may satisfy this requirement through approved training providers, including legal counsel, commercial organizations, nonprofits, or the free online course offered by the California Attorney General's Office and the Fair Political Practices Commission. Agencies are also responsible for maintaining training records for at least five years. Records may be requested by emailing communications@mvschools.org.
